Sometimes I wonder how I stumble upon these articles and then why I even stop to read them. Anywho, found an artcile titled 2012 Lemelson-MIT Invention Index Reveals Barriers and Drivers to Becoming U.S. Inventors that talks about who young Americans believe are the top innovators or inventors of all time.
Now the annual Lemelson-MIT Invention Index, which gauges Americans’ perceptions about invention and innovation, surveyed 1,000 young Americans aged from 16 to 25 using an internet-based, multiple-choice format. When asked about how new technology like smartphones and tablets influences and impacts their personal lives, 40 percent of respondents said they couldn’t imagine their life without it. Reading through the article I realized that Mark Zuckerbergand Steve Jobs made the list, but not Bill Gates.
It would appear that young Americans consider the contributions of Apple and Facebook having more of an impact on their lives than those from Microsoft. Very interesting. However, I’m sure there are a lot of IT professionals (myself included) who would say that were it not for Microsoft and their products we could not have made a living, a decent and comfortable living. So even though you didn’t make the Lemelson-MIT list Bill Gates, just know that the IT world owes you and Microsoft a great deal and we thank you for all that you gave us. I can’t imagine the IT world without Windows and Microsoft.
